It all happened so quickly

The following image has kindly been provided to me by a close friend and a serving soldier who is currently coming to the end of his tour in Afghanistan and serving with 2 Rifles.

The image was taken during an encounter with the Taliban during a daily routine patrol. What you can see from the image is an injured soldier on the ground unconscious from being struck in his helmet by an enemy sharpshooter with another soldier risking his life to help his friend.

The following conversation after the incident between the two men involved was this:

Matt: “that’s me on the ground still unconscious from my helmet being stuck while Justin grabs my rifle to give everyone else cover and support from the enemy sharpshooter”.

Justin: “it all happened so quick bruv, I shit myself there”.

This is one of the many incidents that happen daily in Afghanistan, one of many incidents that involve British Soldiers that we never here about, one of many incidents that involve young men and women, real people doing amazing acts of bravery.

Many thanks to Matt (he did survive) and to Justin for the use of the image.

Regards Project Afghan.

About robgrimesphotography

Experienced and enthusiastic, I have a real passion for photography that I have gained over the years and that shines through in my pictures and my portfolio. I specialise in capturing those spontaneous moments that we otherwise could lose, either at your wedding or on a relaxed family shoot of your choice. I am always happy to talk about photography, so if you think I might be the right person to take your photographs then give me a ring to discuss your pictures, they are yours after all. Also a full time serving soldier in the Infantry in the British Army, but soon to be leaving the forces after Project Afghan finishes.

  1. Fantastic example of soldiers just doing what they do for each other Rob, keep ’em coming.
